  1. Has anyone realized that 314 (aside from the beginning) is one of the three digit numbers that appear only after 2,000? Only approximately 8/25 of them appear after 2,000.

To find this data, I searched for the numbers 000-050 on the search engine.

456456545 appears two times in the 200,000,000 digits of PI.
There is only a 9.5 percent chance that it will appear once.

  13. All single digits (0-9) are assigned a specific color. Using construction paper, cut strips of each of the assigned colors. Classes build paper chains using the colored strips according to Pi. Example: 3=white, 1=red, 4=green so the first three strips of the chain will be white, red, green. After each class has completed their portion of the chain, it is hung up in a common hall for all the students to see. This activity helps students see that the pattern is unclear and you can’t predict the next number.

  16. My whole phone number isn’t in the set of digits this search engine searches, but without the area code it is. It’s fun to find repeating numbers, like 34343, at various positions in the string of numbers.
