# Surface Area Calculator

Go back to Calculators page

The surface area calculator will determine the surface area of a cone, cube, cylinder, rectangular prism and sphere.

The formulas for surface area of a cone, cube, cylinder, rectangular prism and sphere are given. The calculator will do all the work for you rapidly with precise results. However, if you wish to calculate manually, the formulas will be handy. Also, an example of how to calculate the surface area of a cylinder is provided.

## How to Calculate Surface Area

The formulas for calculating the surface area differ depending on the kind of geometric solid. Here are the surface area formulas:

Cone:  $$A = \pi^{2}+\pi\sqrt{(r^{2}+h^{2})}$$, where r is the radius and h is the height of the cone.

Cube:  $$A = 6s^{2}$$, where s is the length of the side.

Cylinder: $$A = \pi r^{2}+ \pi r\sqrt{r^{2}+ h^{2}}$$, where r is the radius and h is the height of the cone.

Rectangular prism: $$A = 2(ab+bc+ac)$$, where a, b and c are the lengths of sides of the prism.

Sphere: $$A = 4\pi r^{2}$$, where r stands for the radius of the sphere
