The formulas for calculating the surface area differ depending on the kind of geometric solid. Here are the surface area formulas:
Cone: A = πr² + πr√(r² + h²), where r is the radius and h is the height of the cone.
Cube: A = 6s², where s is the length of the side.
Cylinder: A = πr² + πr√(r² + h²), where r is the radius and h is the height of the cone.
Rectangular cuboid: A = 2(ab + bc + ac), where a, b and c are the lengths of sides of the cuboid.
Sphere: A = 4πr², where r stands for the radius of the sphere
Surface area example:
Suppose we have a cylinder with height of 6 cm and radius of 4 cm. Substituting 6 for h and 4 for r, the surface area is
A = π(4)² + π(4)√(4)² + (6)²
A = 16π + 4π√52
Note that all units in the final answer must be squared since we are dealing with area.
